On Sunday, my best friend, Ryan River, experienced an unimaginable loss. His beloved cat, Strider, passed away suddenly due to a blocked bladder. The vets were able to relieve the blockage, but his potassium levels spiked to a level they had never seen before that rapidly. This caused his heart to stop before they could intervene. Despite their best efforts to save him, including multiple resuscitation attempts, Strider’s little heart just couldn’t hold on.

Anyone who has ever loved an animal knows they are more than just pets—they’re family. Losing them is devastating, and no one should have to bear the financial burden of their passing on top of their grief. The emergency vet bill for Strider’s care has left Ryan with unexpected expenses during an already heartbreaking time.

To honor Strider’s memory and heal from this loss, Ryan hopes to open his heart and home to another pet when he’s ready. In addition to covering the vet costs, any extra funds will go toward adoption fees, helping him give another animal a loving forever home.
