<div>The Torrance Police Officers Association is coming together to support Ryan Simpkins and his family during an unimaginably difficult time.

<div>On January 7th, 2026, Ryan was diagnosed with an extremely rare and aggressive form of cancer: Stage 4 metastatic non-small cell lung cancer with an incurable BRAF V600E mutation. This fast-spreading cancer was discovered after what seemed like nothing more than a persistent cough. Since his diagnosis, the cancer has been found to have spread to his brain, liver, and stomach.

<div>Ryan is just 39 years old and will celebrate his 40th birthday on March 5th.

<div>Ryan and his family are dedicated members of the Torrance Police Department. Ryan has been with TPD since 2015, beginning his career as a Records Technician and later promoting to Administrative Assistant in the Financial Planning &amp; Strategy Division. Ryan’s wife, Amy Simpkins, has served as a TPD Services Officer since 2012, working as a jailor, a parking enforcement officer in the Traffic Division, and now as the Department’s court liaison. Ryan’s sister-in-law, Natalie Blumfield, has also been with TPD since 2010 and currently works as an Administrative Analyst in Services. His co-workers at TPD describe Ryan as a caring, funny, and genuine person.

<div>Together, Ryan and Amy are raising their 7-year-old son, Liam. Liam knows his Dad is sick but currently does not know the extent of his Dad’s diagnosis.

<div>Ryan and his family currently live in El Segundo, a community they love and actively support. As a family, they regularly attend local events &amp; fairs, and enjoy giving back to the South Bay community they call home.

<div>Ryan is known for his big heart and love for life. He’s a huge Anaheim Ducks fan, loves the outdoors, and looks forward every year to camping and fishing trips to June Lake. He and Amy love taking Liam to Disneyland, where Ryan’s favorite character, Donald Duck, never fails to make their adventures extra special. One of Ryan’s greatest joys is simply playing video games with Liam and making memories together.

<div>As Ryan begins treatment, the family is facing significant out-of-pocket medical expenses, including an annual deductible of $6,000, along with many unknown and unexpected costs that may arise—such as specialized treatments, travel, time away from work, and the potential for clinical trials. Unfortunately, Ryan is now on a medical leave of absence from work, and Amy will be taking time off throughout the year to help Ryan through this journey. This fundraiser has been created to help ease the financial burden so Ryan and Amy can focus on what matters most: time, treatment, and family.
