Help Rufus Walk Again

About a week ago we took Rufus into the vet due to a limp he had for several days. We didn't think much of it, as Rufus is a wild child of a dog, and had hoped it would get better but that just wasn't the case, so we brought him in. The vet took a look at his leg and said he wouldn't know anything without X-rays. So we started the cycle of bills to come and gave the vet permission. The vet came back and said that Rufus' Cranial Cruciate is close to rupturing, and it's just a matter of time before the whole ligament tears and he won't be able to walk. The vet informed us that the only fix is surgery which is $3,000.
We headed home with the less than fortunate news, and stocked up on fish oils, anti-inflammatories, anything to help our Rufus have a chance at getting better and not needing the surgery. We had high hopes regardless of the diagnosis.
Despite our efforts to keep him in the clear, yesterday his leg took a turn for the worst. Rufus was outside doing his thing as usual. He had been walking with more ease as of late so we trusted him to be outside to do his business. We heard a yelp and I quickly opened the door to find a 3 legged Rufus, not putting any weight on his back right leg. The ligament had torn, exactly what we didn't want to happen. :(
Currently, Rufus has to be helped wherever he goes, especially while using the stairs. He doesn't play with his toys now, nor does he run around in the yard like he used to love to do. He doesn't even get up to eat popcorn with use, something he used to do no questions asked.
The Owners:
Mathias is a 23 years old motorcycle mechanic, waiting patiently during this slow winter season. He has gone to severe lengths thus far to keep Rufus in good health; Rufus has severe allergies that cost an arm and a leg to keep under control.
Ariel is fresh out of school and paying off loans while working a full time job as an event planner. An avid dog lover, Ariel frequently walks dogs as a part time job, as well as attends dog fundraising events to support causes that mean a lot to her.
Rufus is the most loving, fun-loving, goofy, crazy, protective best friend we've ever had. The thought of him not being able to run, jump, and play is too sad to dwell on, especially at the young age of 2. Without his back leg, his happiness is sure to dwindle and for that, we are willing to do whatever it takes to make his life a joyous one.
