Hello! I’m Ashley and I’m trying to raise funds for a medical stroller for my autistic son. Insurance won’t cover a penny and 4K isn’t something we just have lying around, we are not eligible for a payment plan and we are out of appeals.

Let me tell you about the man of the hour, the lad for whom this is for…Rowan. Rowan is five years old and was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder III, as well as global delay. Rowan is also nonverbal and does not speak, this makes communicating with him very difficult, especially since he has no sense of danger or fear. As a result of this, Rowan will run. Fast and far away without one look back. This is called “elopement” and it is the number one cause of death in children with ASD. It is my worst nightmare! You can imagine how stressful things like grocery shopping, family trips out and even doctors appointments are; he is now to heavy for me to wear or carry. This stroller would open up so much for us as a family!

With Rowan being autistic, we spend a fair amount of time in doctors offices and hospitals where the wait times can be unpredictable. Having Rowan in a contained safe space during these waits would eliminate a lot of stress for me as I’m usually solo for these and he’s getting more and more difficult for me to manage. Most of the time these doctors visits are spent with me chasing Rowan around the room while trying to pay attention and talk to the doctor. I guess they don’t like him climbing everything in the room?

This stroller would open up avenues for our family to get out of the house together. As it stands, when we take the kids out together, we are inevitably separated. One going with Rowan to chase and one staying with Locklyn. The person giving chase is usually exhausted long before the others and we end up leaving early because it’s just a hassle. We could finally go to fairs and zoos and the conservatory or mall without having to worry that Rowan is going to get away.
