Team:

Loyal readers of Mike Miller have put together this page on his behalf.

Plea:

Most BMW enthusiasts know of Mike Miller’s “Tech Talk” column in Roundel magazine, published by the BMW Car Club of America, but they may not know about the debilitating brain injury that he suffered last year. Just before the pandemic lockdown, Mike was working in his garage when he slipped on a oily spot while he was closing the garage door. Apparently the heavy door bashed his head, leaving him unconscious and resulting in such a serious traumatic brain injury that doctors induced a coma to help the brain heal. He has been slowly recovering ever since.

After leaving the hospital, Mike has been undergoing weekly rehabilitative therapy, and we are hopeful for a full recovery, but it’s a slow process. Although his insurance has covered some of the bills, it did not cover everything, and while Mike is able to continue dispensing advice for the Tech Talk section, he has had to put aside his work as a lawyer for obvious reasons. As a result, hospital bills have piled up, along with his regular costs, and taxes have come due—and the stress of his economic situation only aggravates his condition and hinders his recovery.

One of Mike’s anonymous fans writes, “Like many other readers, I turn to Tech Talk first when I get my copy of Roundel. I always learn something about my BMWs, and learn what to watch out for, or how to fix something that may arise in the future. I like how Mike knows what to do (and what not to do!) and gives good advice. I like my local dealer, but if Mike helps me avoid a trip there, it’s worth the price of the magazine (and my local BMW dealer gives me a 10% discount on parts, so my BMW CCA membership is a no-brainer). I emailed Mike on two occasions, both when I had weird issues with my E46. After I sent an email to Tech Talk, not only did Mike respond to my emails, but he called me both times! We talked about what was going on and he solved the problems, saving me money and time. I have seen time and time again that Mike’s calling me is not unusual; he calls many people in order to help them keep their beloved BMWs running. He is a great friend—and now he needs a hand. A few dollars would go a long way toward solving his current financial crisis and allow him to get the care he needs.”

We have arranged for all funds to go directly to his bank account; a close friend has agreed to monitor the account, set aside funds for tax obligations, and disburse the rest appropriately—tasks which are unfortunately beyond Mike’s abilities at this time.

Mike Miller has done a lot for the BMW community. Can you help us do something for him?
