On Wednesday, February 5, my mom brought Ross to the hospital after about a week or so of not feeling good. They thought it was Covid because of the symptoms he was having, but when his side started hurting him, that’s when they decided to bring him in.
After getting to Terrebonne General, they ran tests and found infection in his muscles, then found more infection in his spine. After finding it in his spine, they ran more tests to see if it had reached his brain. Thankfully, it didn’t. They then found an abscess in his stomach that they said is most probably the cause for all of the infection in his body. They also informed us that the abscess is pressing and pushing against his spine. They started him on some strong antibiotics right away and then transferred him by ambulance to Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans.
The next day, Feb 6, they brought him into surgery to flush out/drain the infection from his spinal cord. The surgeon told us when he was done that his spinal cord was FULL from his neck all the way down with infection, but they had managed to get almost all of it out. The next morning, Feb 8, they brought him into surgery again to do the same with the infection in his muscles. Everything had gone well with both surgeries.
On Feb 9, after thinking things were going well, we were handed more bad news. They did blood work and found infection in his blood. They doubled his meds and he’s now waiting for Wednesday to get a procedure done so we can see if the infection is around his heart. More blood work was drawn and we should get those results in on Thursday to see if it’s still in his bloodstream. He has been in a lot of pain, but he does seem like he is slowly feeling better so we are praying that it’s a good sign.
I'm asking for donations to help my mom and dad pay for his medical expenses and gas money from driving back and forth from Grand Isle to the hospital. They told my mom today, Feb 11, that it looks like he will be in the hospital for about 6-8 weeks. My mom hasnt been to work since she brought him in last week and she isn’t gunna be back till he’s home and better. my dad goes when he can so he’s able to work and take care of everything at home. Some family has helped her out a bit with getting food for them, but she still has to pay for them to eat while there. He’s been in the hospital so far for 5 days with 2 surgeries and one coming up. When he goes home, he will be on strong antibiotics for a long time. As of right now, he has no insurance, so all of this is about to come down hard on my mom and dad. But no doubt they will do whatever it is that they have to do to keep my brother alive and well. We appreciate all the love and prayers.
PLEASE consider donating if you can. ANY amount will help, big or small. Thank y’all so much in advance and PLEASE continue praying for my brother.
