Help Rosie become a Texan!

Donation protected

We’d like you to meet Rosie. She is our 2 year old black lab. She joined our family on Thanksgiving 2014 from a farm outside of Lusaka, Zambia. Rylee quickly chose her out of the litter, and within 30 seconds proclaimed her name Rosie.

We have determined the best option for our sweet fur baby is to bring her back with us to the states when we leave Zambia. This has not been a hasty decision, and it was reached through much careful thought and consideration.

We’ve received quotes from the airline we will be traveling with, as well as information from Rosie’s dedicated veterinarian (who btw has graciously offered us a discount for her services in getting the export permit ready) - and the fact is, her travel fees will be quite expensive…and all the costs must be covered UPFRONT IN FULL (no credit options are available).

And so, we are humbly asking for your help. Will you help us secure Rosie’s future and allow her to move forward with us into this next season?

HERE’S MORE ABOUT ROSIE AND WHY WE’D LIKE TO MAKE HER A TEXAN…

Homeschooling means Ashley, Rylee, and Selah are around the house much of the time. Rosie has become such a faithful companion. She follows us from room to room and is content to just curl up and be in our presence. When our family leaves for an errand, we arrive home to find her sitting on the driveway with alert eyes eagerly waiting for our return. As soon as she recognizes our car, she makes a mad dash to greet us. Love for her family pours out of her liquid brown eyes, and the feeling is very much mutual. She’s the best snuggler, the sweetest and most loyal friend, and patiently allows the girls to dress her up like a pretty princess. She is special indeed!

So with that said, what happens to her as we leave Zambia is extremely important. We are not unfamiliar with rehoming a beloved dog to an amazing family. In fact, when we came to Zambia we did just that. Our two labs went to an incredible family that still keeps in touch. They are loved well and extremely happy in their new home. Of course we miss them, but the knowledge that they are secure and well cared for always brings us great joy.

However, it is a much different scenario with Rosie...

*  We found out when she was just over a year old that she has severe congenital hip dysplasia. This condition requires vigilant care. We have been treating it with two different joint medications and regular exercise, and are happy to report she is doing phenomenally well.  Perhaps when she is older, she will need more drastic action – but for now this program has given her fantastic results.

*  In addition to Rosie’s health situation, there is another factor that affects our decision. Zambia is not the permanent home to the families we would feel comfortable leaving her with. It is very likely these families will eventually relocate outside of the country. If we rehomed Rosie here in Zambia, we would not be confident in her future.

*  Our third consideration relates to our transition back to America. There will be so many changes for Rylee and Selah, and we are trying to think of ways to make things as smooth as possible. For their sake (and ours), we cannot think of a better way than to have Rosie in our new home stateside. She will provide a consistency that we think will be invaluable to all of us.

There will be many expenses in the coming months as we pack up the life we have built in Zambia, and move in obedience to His call back to Texas. We are believing God will be with us every step of the way during this transition, and provide for all our needs in the way He sees fit. He has faithfully demonstrated that He always goes before us and comes behind us, and we are constantly in awe of His attention to every detail. He is a God who moves mountains in ways we could never have imagined, often times using many of you along the way.

Will you consider partnering with us to make Rosie an official Texan?
