<div>Hello, I’m Rosie Taylor, a 36-year-old transgender woman living in Scotland. I realised quite late in life that I was trans, but with the love of my wife, my son, and my friends, I’ve been able to begin my transition into a much happier, truer version of myself.

<div>Alongside being trans, I also live with autism and long-term depression. Gender dysphoria makes daily life incredibly hard—something as simple as leaving the house or seeing myself in the mirror can trigger anxiety and sadness. Transitioning is not a choice; it’s the path to living fully as myself.

<div><em>Why I Need Help</em>
</div>

<div>Unfortunately, accessing care through the NHS is almost impossible. Although gender healthcare <a href="https://www.publications.scot.nhs.uk/files/dl-2024-21.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">should be available</a> , waiting times are incredibly long. Freedom of Information <a href="https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/sandyford_gic_waiting_list_and_s/response/3072431/attach/3/FOI%252520Request%2525202501301%252520Response.pdf?cookie_passthrough=1" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">requests</a> to my NHS gender clinic revealed patients could be waiting <strong>74–173 years</strong> for their first appointment.

<div>That leaves trans people like me with no option but to seek private care. But the costs are far beyond what I can manage alone, especially as I’m supporting a young family.

<div><em>What the Costs Look Like</em>

<div>Here’s what being born with gender dysphoria means financially:

<li><strong>Gender Recognition Certificate (GRC)</strong>: This is vital for me to be recognised legally in life and death, and to update important documents like my marriage certificate.

<li><strong>Laser Hair Removal</strong>: To reduce dysphoria caused by the effects of going through the wrong puberty.
</li>
<li><strong>Medication &amp; Blood Tests</strong>: Lifelong care that allows me to continue my transition safely, and live in my true gender.
</li>
<li><strong>Future Surgery Savings</strong>: While I’ll save for this myself, any extra support here would bring life-changing goals closer.
