<div>My name is Matt Brooks, and I’m raising funds to help my 17-year-old son Ronald receive sight-saving surgery for a rare degenerative eye disease called keratoconus.

<div>A few days ago, we learned that Ronald’s corneas are thinning and warping — a condition that, if left untreated, can lead to severe vision loss or blindness. His doctors have recommended corneal cross-linking (CXL) surgery to stop the disease from progressing. Unfortunately, the procedure costs $7,500 per eye, but we are currently without insurance and seeking alternative options.

<div>As a father, this news hit hard. Ronald has always been the steady one — quiet, thoughtful, and strong. When I asked how he felt about the diagnosis, he smiled and said, “I’m okay, Dad.” But I could tell he was trying to protect me from worrying. That’s who he is — even when facing something scary, he’s thinking about everyone else first.

<div>We’ve been exploring every possible option, including teaching hospitals like UT Southwestern in Dallas, which offer lower-cost procedures. But time is critical, and we want to ensure he gets the care he needs before his vision worsens.

<div>Ronald has his whole future ahead of him — college, driving, and the independence every young man dreams of. His little brother, Raylan, looks up to him more than words can say. This surgery isn’t just about saving sight — it’s about preserving the experiences they’ll still share together.
