<div>Rogelio Perez, a father of 4, was diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, aka Lou Gehrig’s Disease) on February of 2023. ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease causing muscle weakness, paralysis, and eventual respiratory system failure. In the past year Rogelios life has changed drastically, he has become completely dependent on his wife, Diana and at times his own children. Although there is medication to help slow down his symptoms, there is no cure. <strong>Our goal is to give Rogelio the best quality of life possible and the necessary equipment for Diana to be able to take care of him.</strong>

<div>To many ALS is an unknown disease. According to the ALS Association: “When the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movements is lost. When voluntary muscle action is progressively affected, people may loose ability to speak, eat, move and breath.” The simple everyday tasks like getting out of bed, brushing your teeth, drinking water, walking, sitting, hugging your children etc… becomes impossible.

<div>To this date we are very grateful for the love and support of many of our friends and loved ones. Unfortunately the cost of care is extremely expensive, ranging from $100,000 - $200,000 USD every year. They are grateful for the limited health insurance benefits they count with but there are still many costs to be covered. Rogelio, his wife, and his 4 children will need support for costs of in-home medical and personal care, equipment and accessibility renovations to their home, and medical expenses and alternative therapies not covered by insurance.

<div>Rogelio has always been the provider in his family. Before his diagnosis, he worked hard to provide for his loved ones. Due to his wife being his sole caregiver, they are asking for support in this fight. On behalf of Diana and the rest of the family, they would like to say they will always be grateful for your support. Rogelio has fought ALS with the help of family and friends, but specially with the help of Diana, his loving wife of 18 years. We are asking your support by donating to help Rogelio and his family defray the financial burdens of fighting ALS. Soon ALS, along with all other diseases, will be a thing of the past and “death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore.” (Revelation 21:4). We love you all! <div>Rogelio Pérez, padre de 4 hijos, fue diagnosticado con ELA (Esclerosis Lateral Amiotrófica, también conocida como Enfermedad de Lou Gehrig) en febrero de 2023 a la edad de 36 años. La ELA es una enfermedad neurodegenerativa progresiva que causa debilidad muscular, parálisis y eventual insuficiencia del sistema respiratorio. En el último año, la vida de Rogelio ha cambiado drásticamente, se ha vuelto completamente dependiente de su esposa, Diana y de sus propios hijos menores. Aunque hay medicamentos para ayudar a reducir sus síntomas, no hay cura. Nuestro objetivo es darle a Rogelio la mejor calidad de vida posible bajo las circunstancias y el equipo necesario para que Diana pueda cuidar de él.

<div>Para muchos, ELA es una enfermedad desconocida. Según als.org "Cuando las neuronas motoras mueren, se pierde la capacidad del cerebro para iniciar y controlar los movimientos musculares. Cuando la acción muscular voluntaria se ve afectada progresivamente, las personas pueden perder la capacidad de hablar, comer, moverse y respirar". Las simples tareas cotidianas como levantarse de la cama, cepillarse los dientes, beber agua, caminar, sentarse, abrazar a sus hijos, etc... se vuelven imposibles.

<div>Hasta la fecha estamos muy agradecidos por el amor y el apoyo de muchos de nuestros amigos y seres queridos. Desafortunadamente, el costo de atención es extremadamente caro, entre 100.000 y 200.000 dólares cada año. Ellos están agradecidos por los limitados beneficios del seguro de salud, pero todavía hay muchos costos que cubrir.
