Help Rodrigo See

Hi my name is Rodrigo Miranda. I am 22 years old and I’ve just been diagnosed with a rare cornea condition called Keratoconus. This genetic condition makes the cornea bulge forward over time into a cone shape that can cause rapid vision loss if not treated. It’s currently at a moderate state progressing towards severe vision distortion. I have an appointment on March 13th for a procedure called corneal cross-linking to prevent my eyes from getting worse. Having the procedure done as soon as possible will prevent more damage to the cornea, less vision loss, and reduce my chances of needing a corneal transplant surgery. There is a 97% success rate with this procedure and it could potentially improve my eyesight as well. Without the procedure, the cornea will bulge causing severe vision impairment that will impact my independence, ability to drive, and the rest of my life. Since the condition is rare and the procedure relatively new (currently at a trial base) there is no insurance coverage and I have to pay $8,000 out of pocket.

My eyes are extremely important to me! As all of our eyes are. I am an artist who loves photography and painting. Eyesight enables me to create the things I want to see come to life. Looking behind a camera is the place I feel most free and limitless. With this procedure I can continue to follow my passions, do what I love, and experience the world through sight.  I am extremely frightened that my dreams are slowly deteriorating along with my vision.
