Help Robinah finish her masters!

Donation protected
Hello everyone. My name is Robinah Gibola. I come from Kitgum, a small town located in northern Uganda that is still in recovery after a war that lasted over 25 years.  I am currently pursuing a master’s degree in Global Leadership and Sustainable Development (GLDS) at Hawaii Pacific University (HPU) in the USA. I have two more semesters to complete my degree, but unfortunately, my sponsor is unable to continue paying for my program due to financial reasons.

I do really need your help and support to raise $12,700 US dollars that would cover tuition for two semesters. My immediate goal is to raise at least $6,350, US dollars that would be used to pay my first-semester tuition that will start in August 2018. Otherwise, I will have to leave the US as the terms of my visa allow me to stay only if I am enrolled in and attending classes full time. I cannot personally pay for my tuition fees as my F1 visa allows me to work only 18 hours per week. I was fully dependent on my sponsors because my family cannot afford to support me financially. I am now looking to friends and well-wishers to help me finish this great program. I plan to work on campus to pay for my accommodation, utility bills, and personal expenditures, etc.

My first year of the GLSD program was really challenging because it was a new environment, with different methods of teaching, but despite everything, I worked very hard and attained very good grades. I have been able to learn in detail issues like climate change and its impacts especially to developing nations, the role women play in building resilient communities, the importance of good governance in promoting sustainable development, the use of systems thinking tools to analyze underlying systemic structures, to name a few.

I believe I have an important role to play as a young African woman who believes that through good governance and education, Africa and developing countries can solve their own problems. When I graduate from the GLSD master’s program, I plan to get involved in research work, coordinate with organizations and communities on issues related to climate change and environmental management, and engage people in current discussions that are of relevance to the community.

I am motivated to use my experience and knowledge to create a platform whereby students can get exposure in leadership and learn different skills related to diplomacy, writing, public speaking, and debates, etc., which I believe will play an important role in building future leaders.

My dreams can come true only if kind-hearted folks like you support and invest in me. I will update you every step of the way on my progress in school and in life. By helping me you are helping a larger community!

Any amount donated will be much appreciated.

Thank you so much for your contribution.

 Yours Robinah Gibola.

Additional background information

Before coming to HPU, I volunteered in several activities in Uganda that were oriented towards empowering women and the youth and creating a platform for men to understand the roles they play in ensuring gender equality and equity. I have had the honor of educating girls on sex education, gender-based violence, self-defense, sexually transmitted diseases/infections, career choices, environmental education, physical exercise for HIV infected women, to mention but a few. Because of my interest in leadership, I have joined several clubs within the University such as the Model United Nations Club, the Sustainability Club, etc.

“Robinah is the kind of role model girls desperately need all over the world. She is indomitably curious, compassionate and dedicated to creating equity in her community. I am grateful for the having had the opportunity to partner with her during my time as a Peace Corps volunteer in Northern Uganda. I can say without a doubt that many of the projects we worked on together were successful because of her insight, connections and contagious enthusiasm. I teared up when she told me she would be able to pursue her masters in Global Leadership and Sustainability at Pacific University because I could not think of a person more deserving of the opportunity. I so deeply hope she can rally enough support around her to finish her degree. Please consider supporting her, investing in Robinah is investing in creating a better world.”-  Katie Giseburt, Peace Corps Uganda 2015-2018.
