Ever wonder what happened to all of the kitties in the Safeway parking lot?

Several months ago, there was a lot of talk and concern about the kitties dodging cars, getting run over, and struggling to survive in the Safeway parking lot on the corner of Hunt Highway and Merrill Ranch Road.

After an initial meeting was canceled, a team of volunteers decided to move forward to rescue these kitties. We spent many long and cold nights dedicated to humanly trapping these kitties and getting them into rescues. Four juveniles went to AZ Cares, one was adopted by a friend of the volunteers, and the remaining kitties are under the care of ROAR. Three kittens have been adopted through ROAR, and four more are ready or almost ready for their forever home. There were 17 kitties in all, all different ages and levels of socialization.

You bringing awareness to the kitty situation helped make the rescues possible.

We need additional help, though. Rescues are volunteer based and rely on outside support and adoption fees to help pay for spay/neuter fees, vaccines, microchips, deworming, food, litter, and other costs. Dental (e.g., extraction of broken teeth) is another expense. One of our grey tabbies rescued from the back of Safeway may need this. He has an exam coming up.
