Doug & I are doing a Pro Bono for a mom & her daughter who are in dire need of their home being repaired. The daughter (Karen) who has a rare disease called "DERCUMS" is in constant pain 24/7 and she had an ex-hubby who destroyed their home by kicking holes throughout it. She is on SSI and gets $750 a month. The Mom (Rita) is on SS and gets $2,000 a month. After they buy food, pay the electric bill and mortgage there is nothing left to make the much needed repairs. They have no heat and a small window A/C unit. The roof leaks, the porch roof is rotted and falling in and the inside ceiling is heavily damaged from the roof leaks.
We have advertised on our local Next Door and have gotten around 12 volunteers to help us with the repairs. Also many women have offered to help out by painting, dump runs, food for volunteers, etc.
The funds will be used to purchase the needed materials such as paint and supplies, lumber, roofing materials, patches for the holes in the walls, new underlayment for the damaged floors, bathroom floors, carpet, etc.
We want to start the repairs ASAP as the monsoons will be upon us shortly in Arizona and the roofs need to be repaired before then. Any donations will be greatly appreciated and will go to a good cause! We are just trying to help out a neighbor who truly needs it! All volunteers will get great satisfaction from doing a good deed to help!
