Help Rich with his Life-changing Spinal Injury

We often don’t realise how one single moment can have far reaching and life altering consequences until we’re confronted with it ourselves. Our friend Rich was sitting on a wall talking to friends when he slipped backwards and fell. This seemingly innocuous event led to a spinal injury that has left Rich paralysed from the waist down.

 

Rich Murray was only 34 at the time of his accident in July 2021. Just 4 weeks prior he had put down a deposit on his first home with his girlfriend, Gráinne, one of many planned milestones they had worked hard together to achieve. They then planned to get married and start a family together. Instead Rich has spent his 35th birthday in hospital and the injury he has sustained now necessitates that extensive modifications are made to his house.

 

His family, Gráinne, friends and the staff in the Mater Dublin, University Hospital Limerick and Cork University Hospital have been amazing in supporting Rich, but he will now have to adapt to life in a wheelchair.

 

Rich has only started his journey to adjusting to his new way of living and the costs involved are unfortunately significant. Right now, we are aware of some immediate expenses he will have to bear:

 

· a lift for his house so he is not limited to a life downstairs and can have full use of his own home

 

· modifications to a car so he can preserve some of his independence (and as an F1 fanatic, driving is his favourite pastime)

 

· a sturdy wheelchair so that he can be safe, confident and comfortable getting around

 

· a standing frame and exercise equipment for rehab

 

· medical expenses

 

We are sure there will be many more expenses that he will learn of along the way.

 

The goal of this campaign is to help Rich with the unavoidable financial burden these necessary changes entail so that he can live as comfortable and normal a life as possible.

 

The long road to recovery has just begun for Rich but with your help we can try and make sure that he has the help he needs for funding the areas he will need to adapt, so he can put all of his focus into his rehabilitation and get back to living his life.
