Help Ricardo help his family through education

The second picture is of Ricardo (blue shirt), his mother and his brother about 12 years ago, in my old apartment in Haiti. Today, he is much taller, but he is still full of brilliance and creativity. His family still supportive and amazing, despite major health issues with his father.

He graduated high school with strong academic credentials and was accepted to a fully paid university program in Strausborg, France (Campus France) last year to study IT.  Problems of insecurity in Haiti make it difficult to stay to study and be safe there right now. Study in France would open up job opportunities and ability to help his family and community upon his return to Haiti. Overall, this opportunity would change his life and many other lives positively.

Last year, despite university acceptance, he wasn't given a visa to France because his family's bank accounts lacked the money to prove he could support himself there. That is how discrimination works - those without money have doors closed to education . . .and then can never get money. But we can help change that, one system and person at a time.

Assuming the University in France renews his acceptance this year, we need him to be able to prove he can take care of his living expenses for the year so he can get a visa. He has many supporters who can contribute something each month (including me!) but not a lump sum to show up front to the visa office.

Please help us by making a gift to his education and living expenses so that, if he is accepted again this year, he can start the visa process immediately.

We are setting up an earmarked account for him for education, and have been assured by the French embassy in Haiti this is the best way we can help him as non-family members. If he is not accepted to the Campus France program again, we will keep the funds in the earmarked account for his next educational choice as he continues to seek a higher education.

We will be happy to keep you updated if you are interested in his progress! We so appreciate any support you can provide, in any amount. As the Haitian proverb goes, "little by little, the bird builds its nest".
