help Rhiana finish her short film!

Hello everyone!

I am raising funds to complete a short film that I started this past summer and autumn. This project threads together different practices, perspectives, and learnings that relate to alternative ways of connecting to the natural world. It jumps between space and time—the ancestral, the present, and the question of a future—while shifting between the hills of the Kent Downs and the rhythms of Trinidad. Weaving together the collective and the personal, the making of this film has been a catalyst for a continual process of learning and unlearning, reflecting on my geographical, personal, and cultural positionalities within the context of the climate emergency.

As an independent filmmaker, I’ve conceptualized, filmed, edited, written, and collaborated with inspiring artists entirely on my own. In the final stages of the project, I plan to incorporate the work of two more artists while further exploring and experimenting with the film’s aesthetics. I also aim to expand my personal reflections on the themes explored, creating stories within stories that dwell on shared experiences and open pathways for renewed understandings of how we collectively relate to the natural world.

Without further funding, I don’t have the time or resources to complete the film. Your support will help cover essential costs, including:

  • Collaborating with two additional artists.
  • Finalising the editing and post-production process.
  • Experimenting further with the film’s aesthetic elements.

The film is a hybrid documentary, which documents the work of some amazing artists in and around Folkestone, Kent, offering alternative inspiration and insights into how we might alter our relationships with the natural world, delicately but urgently posing questions about our place within it.

A work-in-progress version of the film was recently shown at an exhibition titled Trails Interwoven in early October as part of Folkestone’s SALT + EARTH Festival of the Landscape, Seascape, and Environment.
