On April 11, our Tío Miguel was detained by ICE at SFO while traveling to Los Angeles for a vacation, which should have been a normal trip. Miguel came to the U.S. years ago and built his entire life here. He is a hardworking, honest man who created his own successful landscaping business through sacrifice and determination. Two years ago, after surviving a brutal attack that nearly took his life, he was granted a U-Visa for protection as a victim. Instead of receiving the safety he deserved, ICE is now stripping him of that protection.
He was transferred to Arizona, far from his family, where we have limited contact with him. We cannot be there for him, and the pain of not being able to help someone we love is devastating to us all. They are demanding an impossible $1.8 million fine, and if we cannot pay, he faces deportation to Peru. Forced to give up his own home, that he worked years for to remotely reach this goal. Stripped from his family, his business, and the life he built here.
We are not asking for special treatment, just compassion and the chance to bring our Tío home. Any support, whether a donation, a share, or simply keeping Miguel in your prayers. Every contribution brings us one step closer to reuniting our family. No family should have to watch their loved one be taken away like this, and we never thought we’d be facing an injustice situation like this. Miguel deserves dignity, justice, and the chance to stay in the only home he has built. Thank you for standing with us during the hardest time our family has faced.
