Help repair my chimney and I’ll give you a story
That chimney looks innocent enough, doesn’t it? But oh, my dears, it hides a plethora of problems—all of which are ticking time bombs. A cracked crown, a brick or two sheared off with holes, interior bricks gone, and water damage that makes one corner of the interior resemble the inside of a cave. Could it come crumbling down? Probably not for another 10 or 20 years. But 3 years ago the guys who were supposed to do $400 of repairs didn’t come back, and in the mix of things like paying a few thousand here and there for vet bills and my own rapidly getting worse health care premiums and copays, I put the repairs aside and just didn’t use the woodstove. Today I had inspectors out to make sure everything was OK to light a couple of fires this winter, just a couple, and that’s when I got the very bad news, that the very wet weather the last few years hasn’t done it any favors and problems have escalated rapidly. So something has got to be done before it gets any worse.
That’s where you come in. Do you care about the structural integrity of my chimney? Probably not. But you probably do care about helping someone out who just got floored with a giant bill she didn’t expect during the holidays. Even more than that, you might be curious about what I’d like to do for each and every person who requests it—I’d like to give you a story to thank you for donating to this worthwhile cause that keeps me and my cats in a safe and secure non-fire or water damaged home. Now it might be that I find you a story that has been written already, or it might be that I’ll write you a little something. It could be a mantra, or a poem, or a little fairy tale, or something else. But it’ll be something. Just for you.
