This campaign is an attempt to offset the cost of traveling to Los Angeles to attend a day of tattoo education workshops and the weekend at the Golden State Tattoo Expo. I have attended the Expo twice (as someone to help run the booth), and I found the opportunity to watch truly amazing, world class artists work to be extraordinarily useful in developing how I approach tattooing.
This year, I hope to be attending the Black Anchor Academy workshops the day before the tattoo expo for an additional $500 plus the cost of the hotel. After the seminar day, I will be working as an artist at the convention this year - though there is no guarantee that I will make any money or get any customers in a building full of world-famous artists.
In the dead of winter, it is difficult to meet all my bills and still take a trip like this, but the opportunity to learn from world class tattoo artists and to network with them is worth the leap of faith.
The cost solely for the trip (hotel, booth fee, flight, convention, and health licensing ) is approximately $1200.
The extra day of workshops and hotel cost is approximately $600, maybe a little more
This does not include any personal expenses while at the convention.
Tattooing has saved me, and I’m absolutely certain that I would not be alive today without the support and encouragement that I found in my shop family, art community, and the faith of my clients. On my darkest days, I find purpose and reasons to continue on in the promises I have made to complete a piece of artwork - to etch it forever into the surface of a fleeting and ephemeral medium: the human body.
It would really mean a lot to me if I could get the financial support to deepen my knowledge of tattooing and to advance my career in its early years. One of my clients convinced me this would be the way to get to that goal, and he agreed to match the first $100 I raised.
