Help Refugee Family Rebuild

Donation protected
Love the One - Will you help Abraham get a college education and an opportunity for self-sustainability. Our goal is to help Abraham get the education and skills he needs to support himself and his family in the long run.

Their Reality
What do you do when you have to flee your home, your country, your education, your livelihood? For Abraham and his family, this question became their reality.

When the war came too close, they left everything in their hometown of Aleppo, Syria.  Taking very few possessions, they knew that leaving was the only way to ensure their survival.  Abraham is 20 years old, the oldest of four siblings.  Along with his parents, they registered as refugees in Lebanon. Despite their official refugee status they do not have access to formal work, free education or healthcare.  Every month they are faced with $500 rent they cannot pay and meals they have to skip because they cannot afford to buy groceries. Every month they are threatened with eviction and every month grows more and more hopeless.

Abraham wasn’t able to finish his high school education in Lebanon because his family couldn’t afford it and doesn’t have the requirements to attend a Lebanese University. His education and refugee status prevents him from getting a job.

But there is hope.
Despite the present circumstances, he recently discovered that he can apply for an undergraduate degree through an American University (Andrews University)  that offers a program embedded in Middle Eastern University.  In order to apply, he first needs to pass the General Educational Development tests.

We have both a short term and a long term goal for Abraham.

The short term goal:

·        Help Abraham study for and pass the GED tests.

The long term goal:

·        Support Abraham while he attends university and completes a degree in Business.

This will open up more opportunities for a job that can sustain himself and his family.

Next steps in our short term goal:

We have lined up a tutor that is willing to help Abraham study for the GED tests. Due to the gap in his high school education, the tutor estimates it will take over a year to get him ready.

We need to raise finances for this family to live on for a year (rent, food, basics) so that Abraham can focus on preparing for the GED tests. With your support, Abraham and his family can escape crisis mode and begin the road to self-sufficiency. We believe in Abraham. This past year Abraham completed 3 English courses and was tutored by one of our team members on coding languages. He took that knowledge and even started teaching teenagers Java classes at the school he volunteers at allowing them to earn online certificates. He continues to demonstrate how teachable he is and willing to share the knowledge he knows.

Together we can make a difference. Will you help us reach our goal of $15,000 and help one refugee family rebuild their lives again?

Who are we
We are a group of caring individuals made up of an American, a German and three Lebanese. One of the Lebanese in our group met Abraham through a common friend who works for an organization helping refugees in Lebanon. Our Lebanese group members have since been meeting with Abraham on a regular basis helping him with English and general support. We also have a Lebanese tutor and an American in Lebanon with an educational background that is helping to advise us in the GED preparation.

The Funds
The GoFundMe funds will be withdrawn by Alicia (the American) and sent to Abraham through a money transfer company directly to our team member Jana in Beirut. She will deposit the money in her bank account and will give a fixed amount to Abraham on a monthly basis to cover rent and basic necessities.  The goal is to raise enough funds to cover this family's basic needs for a year. 100% of the funds raised will be given to Abraham and his family (less the processing fees of the money transfer company).
