While many churches in the USA have begun a return to normal operations this summer, churches in other parts of the world which were already struggling before COVID-19 have been hard hit with recent shutdowns as the virus goes into its third or fourth wave, depending on the country.
Reformer’s Bible Church in Durban, South Africa, recently turned one year old. They have an extremely young congregation (the majority of them are aged 20-35) with four people over the age of 50. Due to their age, most of the congregation are unemployed and are incapable of contributing financially to the Church, but by God’s grace Reformer’s had some assistance through the older people. However, with harsher lockdown restrictions being put in place, more of the older congregants have lost their jobs and now are also unemployed.
Pastor Carl Joshua has been working a secular job and with the help of some YouTube donors, the church has been able to pay rent on the building they’ve been fellowshipping at for the next two months.
“We (church eldership) humbly ask for your assistance in a GoFundMe campaign to assist us with:
-- Paying off our remaining rent,
-- Paying off our music equipment, and
-- Start us on the road to buying our own building in the future.
All of this amount to about R60 000, which I believe is about $4500,” said Pastor Carl. “Please do consider this prayerfully. We don’t ask this lightly. We know that God will provide according to His will,” he said.
Anything you can donate will help. We have set a goal of $5,000 to also cover the fees connected with collecting and sending donations. Your donation will come to M. Suzanne Borges who will forward the money via money exchange into South African Rand for Reformer’s Bible Church.
You can learn more about this church on Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, or their web site at reformersbiblechurch.org . For their doctrinal statement, see the 1698 London Baptist Confession. You can trust them to have solid theology. As you can see from the accompanying picture, the congregation is young and needs our help.
