Help Reduce the Impact of COVID on Latinos in US

Latinx (Latino, Latina, Hispanic, Chicano/a, Afro-Latino, etc.) people make up about 30% of the population, but 60% of the hospitalizations in Austin, Texas. The Latino population is the most vulnerable population in Austin, and in numerous other states across the US. Local community activists and husband and wife team, Jason Rubio & Diana Anzaldua wanted to change this.
Jason & Diana created "Ayuda" (help). It started just over one week ago (July 10), first, as a Facebook group to help the Latinx population in Austin, Texas, who were hit the hardest by COVID 19. The story was picked up by KUT Austin NPR radio station, and then after that, numerous other news outlets ran the story. All of the local Spanish news stations ran the story, the News Break App, and Yahoo News!
Why? Because of one difference: eliminating barriers.
Ayuda is an errand service and a resource place for people who need help. What's different is that the group and website AyudaTX offer information and services in English and Spanish. Surprisingly, it's 2020, yet there is no Spanish "Favor, Instacart," etc.
Even when people get on these types of apps to request services from places that serve predominantly Hispanics/Latinos (like Mexican grocery stores), no one will reply to the request, even though it's written in English!
Ayuda is here to help the most vulnerable population stay home, social distance, and stay safe. People can make a request on Ayuda and group members who are available can reply to help. Similar to other apps, someone will make a request and someone else can fulfill it. This reduces the number of people in public, which will ideally reduce the impact of COVID in communities everywhere!
What's also different is that during COVID, Ayuda takes 0% from the transactions (unlike other apps who take up to 25%). This allows drivers to keep more of their money during this difficult time.
Due to the news coverage, people from all over Texas have requested an Ayuda group in their cities (Houston, Dallas, Brownsville, etc). We've also had people from Virginia, Florida, and even Bolivia and Columbia ask us to help them in their states/countries! Because of the intensive need, Jason created a website, as well.
Jason and Diana would love to create an app to make it easier for people all over the US and the world to access their resources and get the help they need. We want to create this app immediately, as COVID is affecting people everywhere, right now! We know that apps can be expensive, which is why we started a GoFundMe. We don't know how much we'll raise, but anything will help!
