Help Red Mug Reopen

Donation protected
Dear Red Mug Family,

There is an old saying that goes something like … “most of the things we worry about in life never really end up happening, however, the things that really change our lives forever will typically blindside us on an idle Tuesday”.  That idle Tuesday has just happened to all of us in these last few months.  A blindside that no one was prepared for and that each of us are navigating after the path we were on was so abruptly changed.

As we all know living in Superior & Duluth, life simply slows down in the winter.  With the Red Mug it was never so much about lack of tourism, as our Red Mug family is our core, it is simply the hibernation factor of our community in winter.  Hence, spring was always more than just brighter days and warmer weather to look forward to.  This year, however, that simply was not the case.  After a long snowy winter, and a “stay-at-home” spring, the hibernation period never ended.  Due to this, Red Mug most likely will be unable to re-open after this stay-at-home order lifts, given current conditions.

Although we tried to remain open for take-out orders, we all know that the location is not conducive to such and that the real heartbeat of the Red Mug is truly the family of customers that are more than just people who fill the seats.  After a few days, the building owner urged us to shut down completely.  Although we explored the loans available to small businesses struggling through this difficult time, either they didn’t make sense for Red Mug or we simply didn’t qualify.

Red Mug has a family in the Twin Ports.  Like all members of a family, there are times when we are up, and times when we are not.  Times when we need to rely on each other, ask a favor, lend a hand and do for each other.  It didn’t seem fair to walk away from this family without exploring every option there is… so, that is the reason for the go fund me page.

The “dream” goal would be to serve as the bridge of funds to allow Red Mug  to re-open at some point… however, as we continue to march into unknown territory, any funds collected now would be used to continue to pay vendors, rent, and other mounting obligations.

If you would like to help, your generosity would be appreciated beyond words, no matter how small.

And, no matter how this path finally unfolds, thank you for being part of the wonderful journey that we have been able to share together at the Red Mug for the past 15 years.
