<div>When I had my older brother move in with me back in 2021, it was because I thought he was going through a rough patch. His skin was peeling off in sheets. His nails weren’t trimmed. He clearly hadn’t been eating or bathing regularly. I knew I could help him. I had a full-time career and a 6-month nest egg in the bank. He and I both figured he could get a job in my area, until he could get back on his feet. Since then, a fall that snapped his arm ultimately led to his diagnosis of Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis. A brief stay in a nursing home went from our family planning his potential funeral to me ultimately becoming his full-time caregiver. He can’t drive anymore. He can’t cook for himself anymore. He can’t attend his medical appointments by himself anymore. He has trouble remembering why I’ve been giving him Tuberculosis medication for the last 3 months, etc., etc., etc. He’s 56, and I take care of everything for him. As bad as all of this sounds, however, he’s finally at a point where I can work with our other brother to keep an eye on him while I return to a full-time job. But this 4-year stretch of me not being able to leave my brother’s side has hit my finances hard. I’m not complaining. I’d do it again, but I could really use a bit of help until I can get back to work. Every amount helps. I’d really appreciate it.
