Hurricane Maria was regarded as the worst natural disaster in recorded history to affect St. Croix. The economy is poverty stricken and efforts to rebuild the school have been halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After years of trying to rebuild, the St. Croix Christian Academy has managed to get by with few resources and limited funds. This school year, the academy will finally be able to open up its doors to a small section of the school that still exists. However, due to social distancing practices during the pandemic and lack of classroom space, they've had to turn away half of the students that inquire on enrolling; some of whom have limited choices on where they attend school.
