Please support Rudy Trekker's team after the Lombok earthquakes
Senaru is a beautiful hill side town in North Lombok. The recent earthquakes of magnitude 7.0 have taken a toll on the small community. We have spoken to our friend Rudy, owner and manager at the trekking company Rudy Trekker. We are very sad to hear that many houses have collapsed and that the hotel we stayed in needs huge amounts of repair work. The team at Rudy Trekker is working around the clock to help neighbours, friends and families in the local community begin the long process to clean and rebuild.
Over the years Rudy Trekker's team has taken thousands of travellers to Gunung Rinjani, the famous Rinjani National Park. This has been their livelihood, their passion and their pride - to help travellers make their way up to the top of Mount Rinjani. This is usually the busiest time of the year with almost all income in the local area reliant on tourism. Not only have many lost their homes, they are also out of work for the foreseeable future.
Rudy Trekker employs:
- 80+ porters
- 38 employees in the hotel & restaurant
- 21 trekking guides
We'd like to support the 139+ people that usually work at Rudy Trekker. Our friends over in Senaru are giving their time to help those that need it the most. Rudy's team is giving comfort to the people in Senaru that have nothing left. Food supplies are low, so they are sharing what they can. The drinking water is scarce. The electricity is cutting out. But they aren’t giving up. They still find a smile on their face. They love Lombok. They love Senaru and what they have been able to achieve trekking the region. The earthquake took everything leaving behind a trace of demolition. Rudy Trekker's team will be rebuilding their houses for months to come and won't be able to work during this time. We'd like to support their livelihood.

This photo below is taken from when we hiked up Mount Rinjani in 2017 with the team at Rudy Trekker. We would have never made the three day trek without the amazing efforts of the organisers, porters, cooks, drivers and guides. Seeing that we are now in Australia, we can't help rebuild the community in person. But we can donate. And we can fund their efforts to rebuild their lives.
