Happy Holidays, Onyx Family!

 

As we end 2022, we know that everyone is aiming to make the best out of the following year, despite the unprecedented times we live in now. Now more than ever, it is important to keep your family, friends, and loved ones close!

 

As we move into 2023 and Onyx's 49th anniversary, we are grateful that our family continues to grow with each new class, and because of that, we strive to strengthen our community bond. To do so, the Graduate Board has a few things in the works throughout the upcoming year, but we need everyone's help!

 

As we focus on building our community up this year, the Graduate Board is spearheading two major projects: 

 

With the desire to accurately document and highlight the history of Onyx, showcase the contributions of past and current members, and fortify a place for Onyx members past, current, and future to stay in tune with The Society, we are raising funds to purchase a new site domain and revamp the Onyx website. Like all other senior societies on Penn's campus, we must maintain a website that documents our organization's history and members and, most importantly, keeps us connected throughout the years.

 

To further achieve our mission of reconnecting and rebuilding our community, the Graduate Board is also raising funds to become a 501c3. This Giving Tuesday, the Onyx Graduate Board hopes to raise $2,000 towards becoming an IRS-recognized 501c3 tax-exempt organization! With your help, we will be able to create scholarship funds, host networking and professional development sessions for undergraduate students and Alumni, and protect the legacy of Black students at the University of Pennsylvania.
