<div>My name is Shahd, and I am part of a family of seven who were evacuated from Gaza earlier this year due to the ongoing conflict. While I am fortunate to be pursuing a scholarship for my bachelor’s degree in Northern Ireland (United Kingdom), my mom and five siblings remain stranded in Egypt under extremely difficult circumstances.

<div>After months of conflict in Gaza, we managed to leave and reach Egypt safely, but we lost everything in my home country—our home, our careers, our education, and, most heartbreakingly, our loved ones. In Egypt, my family faces immense challenges. Without residency rights, they cannot access education or work opportunities, leaving them in a state of uncertainty and without a clear path to stability.

<div>I am creating this campaign to help my family leave Egypt and start anew in South Africa, where we hope to rebuild our lives. This move would give my siblings access to basic rights such as education and employment, providing them with the chance to thrive and secure a brighter future.

<div>South Africa offers the chance to apply for asylum, <strong>and it’s open to us to travel without needing a visa but without any benefit so that everything will be from our own money,</strong> access schools for my younger siblings, and eventually gain the rights and opportunities we’ve been denied for so long. We have chosen Port Elizabeth as our destination due to its more affordable living costs and community-oriented environment.
