Help Rebuild Merritt BC

Donation protected
Hi all,

If you have found yourself on this gofundme page I am sure you have seen how our city of approximately 7000 residents and the surrounding area has been affected by severe flooding. There have been homes swept down the Coldwater River and others completely flooded. Three of our school were heavily damaged by the waters, bridges washed out and the city of Merritt was completely evacuated as our main city water system failed. The residents of Merritt were alerted and evacuated November 15th just hours after the initial flooding began and the residents were allowed to return in 4 phases based on the damage assessment.  There are 366 homes deemed uninhabitable and we are now in the process of seeing the destruction and damage that has ravaged parts of our city. The Spius Creek Bridge linking some rural residents off of highway 8 was swept away leaving 20 residents stranded without power for 3 days until local construction crews were able to build a bridge for their way out. Now is the time to all come together to help the people of Merritt area start the process of restoration and construction

We have now joined the Merritt Rotary Club committee and blended our fundraisers together in order to work as a team and disperse the funds based on an application process. Please find the application form here and share with your friends, family and residents in need Welcome - Rotary Club of Merritt (rotarymerritt.com).

To tell you a little bit about us, Mark Nendick is the Coordinator of the Endeavour to be Better program which is a program under NVSSS and also has his own personal Coaching business called PFN Coaching and works at Highland Valley Copper Mine,  As for me, I am a lifelong resident of Merritt with family ties to Merritt dating back to the 1950's and I currently work for NVSSS as a peer mentor. Both Mark and I along with our families were lucky that our homes were untouched by the water however, as residents of this city we were evacuated and are now home and seeing the damage the flood has caused.

We have had multiple people from around the world who have reached out in attempts to donate to help the residents of Merritt which is why this account was created. To put a dollar amount on the cost of reconstruction  and starting over is almost impossible, however; we would like to start with a goal of $100,000 and reassess when the time comes.

Any donation whether small or large is most appreciated and you will forever be in the hearts of Merritt. All funds are going to the residents who are in need of the financial support as many residents affected by the flooding  do not  have overlandflood insurance.

We thank your kind hearts for taking the time to read over our story and we thank you in advance for your donation.
If you find that you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact Mark or myself.

Sincerely,

Bailee Allen & Mark Nendick
