Help rebuild La Jalca Grande, Peru

As many of you may know, last week an earthquake devastated the community that was our home in the Peace Corps. It left 70% of the homes in La Jalca damaged – many are uninhabitable. The damage is overwhelming and the rainy season there has begun making La Jalca very difficult to reach.

La Jalca is the cultural center of Amazonas. It is a tight-knit, caring community proud of its traditions and way of life that has persisted for centuries.

A local priest in La Jalca has begun raising funds for families to purchase building materials and begin repairing the damage to homes. We are contributing to those efforts and asking those who are able to donate what they can. Your contributions will make a huge difference.

Un terremoto destruyó un gran parte de La Jalca Grande – el centro cultural de Amazonas y nuestro hogar por unos años. Daño el 70 % de las casas en el pueblo. Muchos son inhabitables. El daño es grave y la estación de la lluvia ha empezado. Los derrumbes son una amenaza seria.

La Jalca es el centro folclórico de Amazonas. Es un pueblo importantísimo para la región, Perú, y el mundo. Es una comunidad cariñosa con mucho orgullo por su cultura y sus tradiciones.

La parroquia del pueblo está recolectando donaciones para ayudar directamente a las familias afectadas. Los fondos que recolectamos por Go Fund Me van a ir a la parroquia.
