On February 11th, 2026, our lives changed forever when a house fire destroyed everything we owned. My mom woke up to smoke at 3:00 a.m. and sprang into action, finding flames inside the vents. Together, we got my daughter and our dog out safely, moved the car away from the house, and tried to fight the fire ourselves while waiting for help. It took 45 minutes for firefighters to arrive because we live deep in the woods, and it took five counties working together to finally put out the fire. The Red Cross gave us some support, but it barely covered a few nights in a hotel.
Just weeks before, we lost my dad to cancer. He was the one who handled all our finances, and when he passed, our insurance lapsed for the first time ever. The company refused to cover the fire, leaving us with nothing. My mom, at 61, has been doing everything she can to keep us afloat. We’re shoveling soot and water out of the house ourselves, but the roof is gone and every rainstorm makes things worse. Mold is spreading, and most of our belongings are ruined. My daughter’s schooling has suffered—she can’t even get online for her classes, and the emotional toll has been heavy.
We’re asking for help to rebuild our home and restore stability. We need materials, financial support, and volunteers willing to donate their time. Even basic utilities are a struggle, and we’re living off social security, trying to make sure my daughter has what she needs. We’ve reached out to every local organization, but so far, no one has been able to help. This is a humbling request, but any support—donations, materials, or manpower—would mean the world to us. Thank you for reading our story and considering a gift to help us start over.
