On August 9th, a historic flood devastated the Milwaukee area, and my parents’ (Doug and Pam Anich) home in West Allis was among those tragically impacted. Their basement was fully submerged, and their main floor flooded with at least 6 inches of standing water. After nearly 40 years of living and building their life in this community, they have lost everything they worked so hard for, including cherished belongings, furniture, household items, and my dad’s treasured workshop.
My dad, a talented craftsman, poured his heart into his craft for decades. His workshop, filled with hand tools, heavy machinery, table-top tools, power tools, and specialized equipment accumulated over 40 years, was completely ruined by the flood. These tools were not only his tools of the trade but also his passion and legacy.
My parents have recently retired, finally ready to enjoy the fruits of a lifetime of labor. Instead, they now face the overwhelming challenge of starting over, without the essentials they've depended on for so long. My brother, David Anich, who lives with them, lost most of his belongings as well.
Adding to the hardship, all three of their cars were totaled in the flood.
The present state of their home is uninhabitable. Their lives have been completely displaced. Their homeowners insurance denied their claim and will not cover any of the damages to their home or their belongings.
Despite this devastating loss, their spirits remain strong. We are coming together as a family and community to help them rebuild their home, replace vital belongings, and regain a sense of normalcy.
Your support will make a tremendous difference. Every donation, big or small, will bring hope and help rebuild a life uprooted by this disaster. Thank you for standing with us in this difficult time and helping us turn this hardship into a story of resilience and renewal.
