Help Rebecca Navigate Life After Losing Her Son
Hello! Thank you for stopping by this page. My name is Lanie and I have created this GoFundMe to ask for financial support for my husband’s great aunt, Rebecca ‘Aunt Beck’ Haslam. On July 20, 2021 in Duncan, BC a house fire tragically took the life of her son, Nathan.
They lived on the property together in separate dwellings. In the late evening on the 20th, Rebecca saw Nathan’s house was engulfed in flames. She immediately called 911 and they directed her to leave the property. Her home was luckily untouched and her animals are being cared for by family. The devastation of losing her only child caused her to have a heart attack. She is being monitored at Cowichan District Hospital and is awaiting further health investigations that will take place in Victoria, BC.
Rebecca is currently on long-term disability after an emotional fight against lung cancer. She is a vibrant, positive and compassionate person who has worked as a Health Care Aide for several years at various facilities in the Cowichan Valley. Nathan was her whole world. In her own words, he was a ‘gift from God’.
Nathan was a kind-hearted, genuine and hard working individual. He was very community and family-oriented. He was always available to help a friend or family member in need. The photo above is of Nathan helping with clean up at the family lake property in Honeymoon Bay. If you needed him, he was always there. He was a very humble man with a contagious laugh. He worked as a plumber for JS Plumbing & Heating in Duncan for over 10 years. He is already missed by many.
Rebecca and the family appreciate the hard work from the local fire departments, paramedics and police officers involved. Rebecca appreciates every single person who has reached out with support and kind words. Unfortunately, Nathan did not have house insurance. The most helpful gift at this time would be to help Aunt Beck with the financial burden associated with this tragic event. We are grateful for your support during this difficult time.
