Help Rebecca Fight Breast Cancer!

Donation protected
Hello Everyone! We started this page in support of our co-worker's wife, Rebecca,  who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.  Rebecca's daughter graciously wrote the note below on behalf of her family. Thank you in advance for your support of her fight!

Before sharing the cancer details that everyone dreads talking about, let me tell a little bit about Rebecca as a person. Rebecca, my mom, is quite literally the epitome of human kindness and generosity. She is a mother to not only myself and my two younger brothers, but to countless other people who have chosen to call her Mom simply because she acted like one to them. If there is a need, she will fill it for others. If there is a person without a place to stay or a family to call their own, her home and family becomes theirs. She has given of herself selflessly and tirelessly for my entire life, and now she is the one in need. Neither her nor my step-dad, Tom, will be the ones to say these things and ask for help though.

In December of 2017, she found a lump in her breast and reached out to her doctor. As usual, she was more concerned with not creating worry in her family members than she was about rallying the support she needs. Endless tests and poking and prodding have finally confirmed a diagnosis of breast cancer. One of the biggest hurdles that she will soon face is how to care for my youngest brother during treatment.

Christian is 16-years-old and is diagnosed with Down Syndrome and Autism. He is homeschooled and requires specific and detailed care. He cannot meet his own needs and cannot be left unattended for any amount of time. Tom works in Arizona during the week so that Rebecca and Christian can still live near the rest of the family in California. He makes the long drive home to California every weekend to spend quality time with our family and provide Rebecca with a little break from Christian’s care. His dedication to making these arrangements work every week still amazes me. Once Rebecca undergoes surgery and/or treatments though, she will not be able to physically care for Christian to the level that he requires while Tom is away. It is also probable that she will be sharing time between her home in California and treatment in Arizona. Others will need to fill her role with Christian during this time and this will likely result in financial challenges. Bills from copayments and out-of-pocket expenses have already begun piling up and she has not even started actual treatment or receiving help with Christian yet.

Through the stress of diagnosis and trying to form a treatment plan, she has maintained the same positive faith and attitude that so many love her for.

She is determined to heal and find a way to turn this into a career helping others who need support. While I believe in her whole heartedly, I know that this will be an extremely expensive and difficult journey. I would love to rally support for Rebecca and Tom so that they can continue being positive and kicking this cancer’s butt.

Monetary donations of any amount will be received with immense gratitude. What will be received with equal (possibly even more) gratitude though is the spreading of this positive attitude and faith for her healing.

Whether you pray, send Reiki, think happy thoughts of recovery, donate or provide emotional support, our family thanks you in advance for your support!
