Help Raymond Stay in School

Donation protected
Raymond Stephen Kavombwe is an international student from Tanzania attending St. John's College, one of the most prestigious U.S. liberal arts colleges in the U.S.

On the basis of his academic excellence - having won awards in math, class discipline & placing third overall on graduation from high school, in 2016 SJC generously offered him a full scholarship along with room & board, a package exceeding $60,000 annually.

Unfortunately, this was not sufficient to fully meet travel, living, and other academic expenses.  While this delayed his admission to SJC  until 2017, Raymond was undaunted and was able to self fund these first semester personal expenses via an Indiegogo campaign, where he successfully raised close to $5K from over 50 people in just a few months.  I was one of those donors.

In his first semester Raymond has supplemented these generous donations with part time work.  Nonetheless, work opportunities, wages and even logistics of getting between campus and job sites have proven challenging. Santa Fe is a tiny town with very limited employment opportunities, particularly off-season.

SJC estimates personal expenses not covered under its financial aid package to be approximately $10,000 per year: and this is to just to cover basic academic supplies & personal expenses such as clothing & local travel.

Raymond has shown not only academic excellence but also exemplerary self-motivation & dedication to meeting his academic goals & the challenges of funding these expenses as best as possible.  Furthermore, he also has shown considerable generosity at home in Tanzania to others through volunteer work both at Madonna Hospital and over two years working with the community to assist street children and others less fortunate.

As Raymond enters his second semester of Freshman year in 2018, let us return Raymond's generosity and support his dedication by contributing to help meet his living expenses. Despite careful management, funds are currently very meager to meet his unfunded second semester academic and living expenses.  This compounded with facing his first real winter in the hills of Santa Fe make for challenging times.  Help Raymond meet his living expense needs for this next semester by giving what you can.

Let's help Raymond to meet his goals QUICKLY by the end of January so Raymond can concentrate on his studies and reduce the stress and uncertainty as we enter into the full brunt of winter.

Remember : the $5K goal is to fund MINIMUM requirements through the middle of 2018.  The more we can assist Raymond, the more his part time work can help create a reserve fund for his future financial needs, and just maybe, enough for a ticket out of Santa Fe to see either some other part of the US to engage in his passion for travel & photography, or even a visit home to the family!

To accelerate that goal, all contributions up to $750 made by the end of January 2018 will be personally matched by me. Even though there is no time limit on GoFundMe campaigns, our goal is to reach $5K by the end of January 2018.  At a MINIMUM we need to reach $1500 by that time to cover first two month expenses. Every donation, no matter how small, helps!

On behalf of Ramond & myself, thank you for your consideration and generosity!
