In de derde week van juli werd mijn vriend Raklo, slechts een blok verwijderd van waar hij woont, aangevallen, beroofd, op z’n hoofd geslagen en bewusteloos in een plas bloed achtergelaten op straat. Hij lag daar totdat iemand hem vond en 112 belde.
Raklo kwam op de intensive care terecht en werd 5 uur in coma gehouden. Toen hij wakker werd kon hij zich niet herinneren wat er was gebeurd. Pas later kwamen zijn herinneringen van die avond langzaam terug.
Raklo kan niet met zekerheid zeggen waarom hij is aangevallen, maar kort voordat het gebeurde, belde hij met een vriend over ‘homoseksueel gerelateerde situaties'. Het is vrijwel zeker dat iemand dit gesprek heeft gehoord.
Het is vreselijk dat deze situaties zich nog steeds voordoen, ook in het zogenaamde 'tolerante' Amsterdam.
Afgezien van de fysieke schade die is aangericht bij Raklo, is het moeilijk voor iemand die zoiets niet heeft meegemaakt je voor te stellen, laat staan onder woorden te brengen wat dit mentaal met je doet. Met angst over straat lopen en om openlijk jezelf te zijn. Daarnaast is er nu ook een extra druk op zijn financiële situatie.
Zoals de meesten weten, hebben ziektekostenverzekeringen een ‘eigen risico’. Dit houdt in dat van de ziektekosten de eerste 385 euro uit eigen zak betaald moet worden. Dit bedrag moet Raklo zelf betalen. Daarnaast heeft hij ook nog kosten voor een nieuwe telefoon en het terugkrijgen van zijn (bank/ID)pasjes.
Voor Raklo resulteert dit in financiële zorgen. Zorgen die iemand die het slachtoffer is van een haatmisdrijf niet moet hebben zodat hij zich volledig kan focussen op mentaal en fysiek herstel. Om dit zo snel als mogelijk te kunnen realiseren vraag ik daarom om je hulp.
Geef daarom alsjeblieft geld, wat je kwijt kunt, zodat we er samen voor kunnen zorgen dat Raklo zich volledig op zijn herstel kan richten.

On the third week of July, my friend Raklo was attacked, robbed and left unconscious on the street, one block away from the place where he lives. He was hit on his head and left in a puddle of blood until someone found him and called 112.
Raklo ended up at the intensive care and was induced in a coma for 5 hours. When he woke up, he could not recall what had happend but slowly, the evening’s event came to mind.
Raklo can’t say for sure why he was assaulted, but shortly before it happend he was calling with a friend talking about ‘gay stuff’ and most likely someone over heard the conversation.
It’s horrible that these situations are still happening, also in this so-called ‘tolerant’ Amsterdam.
Besides the awful physical damage done to him, it’s difficult for anyone who hasn’t gone through something like this to imagine and put in words what this has done to his mental state not only with fear when walking the streets and being himself openly but the extra weight on his financial situation.
As most of we know, the insurance companies in The Netherlands do not insure us completely, there is something called ‘eigen risico’ (own risk) which means that the first 385 euros of bills must be paid from his own pocket. This is the amount of money that now Raklo has to pay by himself plus the extra costs such as a new phone, his wallet and recovering his (bank/ID)cards. It is horrible to think that someone who has been a victim of a hate action has now to worry and pay amounts of money that aren’t accessible to everyone. This is why I ask you to collaborate and chip in with whatever you are able, so then we together can collect the money that is needed to pay for his bill and help Raklo focus on his mental and physical recovery.
