Hey, as most of you know by now I was diagnosed with the BRCA gene last year. I have since had a salpingo Oopherectomy and a positive cancer diagnosis.

So far I have had one breast removed and rebuilt with a temporary expander implant. I'm currently waiting for my next mastectomy.

After having a mastectomy you wake from surgery with a gift from the local W.I. It's a heart shaped pillow designed with the love and care to make a horrible situation a little bit more pleasant. The pillow sits under the armpit and has enough stuffing to make the user feel safer and secure. With the support of these pillows, I personally felt it was safety barrier, a visual aid to remind others to be cautious around me and it supported the area under my armpit where much of the operation had occurred. Day and night I needed the support of this wonderful gift.

Truro W.I are one of the very few groups of talented people who put together the heart pillows. Due to regulations other groups would like to make these pillows, but are unable to comply with the correct detailing.

Each and every pillow is individually put together by ladies who give up their free time. Materials are expensive, as you can all appreciated and Truro W.I have been making up to 40 pillows a month - for free - and donating them to St Micheal's hospital in Hayle, Cornwall.

So, this why I've been raising awareness and being generally bad at dancing. Materials are needed and I want to help buy what is needed to help so many women in need of a heart shaped hug.
