Help us raise money for our friend and colleague RITA TOBIA. She has worked in the NHS as an HDU nurse from 1999-2016. She was like a family to all those who had worked with her. She was like a second mother or an older sister to everyone. She retired to the Philippines with her husband Ben, who also worked as a porter in the NHS. Unfortunately, she has been diagnosed with Parkinsonism and has been deteriorating since then. They have come back to London since January this year but due to the pandemic was only seen by the neurologist in October. Her final diagnosis is PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy), it's a rare progressive condition that can cause problems with balance, movement, vision, speech and swallowing. Unfortunately the symptoms of PSP will gradually worsen over time. There is no cure and the only aim is to relieve symptoms and prevent the condition getting worse.
At present, her speech and mobility is noticeably greatly affected. She is able to walk with the aide of a zimmerframe only. She feels that her condition is rapidly deteriorating. It has been really difficult for her and to kuya Ben to cope without any family around. However, they are very grateful to have friends around that have been wholeheartedly supporting them during this difficult time.
She would love to go back to the Philippines as she knows her condition is getting worse and there is nothing they can do about it. She would like to spend the rest of her remaining life in her hometown with her family.
Therefore as a friend, colleauge and family I would be forever grateful if we could help to support them financially so that she could be home with her family for Christmas. Undoubtedly, I also believe that ate Rita and kuya Ben will be very grateful for any help you could give.
