Help Q. Design Lift Up a Single Mom and Her 3 Boys

Donation protected
We have been so grateful to be able to help Natalie* through the toughest months of the early shutdown and into the fall.   Natalie* lost her job on March 15th in an industry that was forced closed and her other skill is restaurant service which is not an option right now with that industry also being hit hard.

Before the pandemic Natalie* was working multiple overtime shifts to make ends meet for her 3 boys aged 9, 12 and 14 and was successfully able to tuck away a bit of extra money for savings each month "just in case" but nothing could have prepared her for the pandemic.

Being suddenly out of work and waiting over 2 months for her EI application to be approved had depleted all of her savings and she was no longer able to feed her boys and their local food bank was running short.   Frantically searching for help she reached out to me late at night, ashamed and embarrassed but desperate for her boys not to know how bad things were for them.  She need basic groceries and had nowhere else to turn.  Since then we have been able to help her get those ends to meet month after month through several obstacles including her being illegally evicted in June with all of their belongings put on the curb by a heartless landlord.   Natalie* has never given up hope and so I'm asking for you to help us lift her up even more now.

Being a single mom there is simply no way her EI checks can cover even their basic expenses (rent, heat, hydro, water and food) and the wait time for extra government programs which have been completely overwhelmed means she will be short every month in meeting the needs of her boys.  Her heart is broken that she can't make it work right now but I know we can let this momma sleep a little sounder!

The Math:
Rent: $1850
Utilities: $230
Internet: $60
Groceries subsidized by food bank: $800
___________________________________________________
Total: $2940

EI is $2000 per month...

One of the things I've learned in the past 7 months is that the only way we are going to get through this pandemic is by taking care of each other.  If we lift each other up we all rise.

I know there are so many kind, helpful, giving, empathetic people in my community who can help us with this task and so no donation is too small.  Every dollar gets this mom one step closer to not having to worry about feeding her boys and that matters.

As an added incentive, Q. Design is going to match dollar for dollar up to our goal amount of $5000 in donating to our food banks.   That way we can lift this one family up and also lift up so many other families in need right now.

I know it's a lot to ask in a difficult time.  I know so many people are in times of struggle right now and so I am so grateful that you would consider helping us help Natalie* to get through the next few months of uncertainty.

Thank you so much for reading this far, for having a kind and giving heart and for choosing to spread hope and love in this time of doubt and fear.

All our very best,
Lindsay & Marilyn
