Help purchase a newborn hearing screen machine

One of the 3 screening tests required for newborns in MN is the hearing test. Many of my clients would not get the hearing screening done unless I offered it as part of my homebirth practice. I was previously able to borrow a shared machine from MCCPM. The manufacturer no longer supports those screening machines and many are no longer working.

It would be beneficial to have a machine to screen my patients. However, the machines are quite expensive, around $5000, which is cost-prohibitive for a small midwifery practice. Each year the device also needs to be re-calibrated, which costs several hundred dollars. I would like to again offer this state-mandated screening instead of referring everyone to the pediatrician.

Hospitals and doctors' offices often bill $150-$300 for this screening test. I would love to be able to offer it as part of my home birth package at little to no additional charge and keep families from having a referral and additional trip. I have contacted many charities and public health entities about securing grant funds with no luck. MCCPM previously had help from MDH to get grant money for machines. They have been trying for 3 years to secure another grant to replace the broken machines and have still been unsuccessful.
