Help puppy badly bitten by another dog

On Saturday evening the Niagara County SPCA received a call from Northtowns Veterinary Emergency in regards to a 7-week-old puppy who was badly bitten by a dog he resided with. The owners could not afford the emergency care for the animal, so the hospital called other animal welfare organizations in the area for assistance. No one would take the animal except Niagara County SPCA.

“The owners could not afford to have him treated for the expensive care. They surrendered him to us and we never hesitated to help. Our hearts break for the puppy,” said Executive Director Tim Brennan.



According to Niagara County SPCA Veterinarian Dr. Christopher Brown with whom the puppy is staying with until he heals, the puppy has severe lacerations and fractures. His wounds were stitched up and now he is being monitored closely, ensuring that he eats and drinks. Brown says the SPCA’s willingness to help the animal with no questions asked is a testament to the organization’s mission. And while it’s been a different holiday weekend for his family at home, he is grateful for the opportunity to help.

“He is a blessing,” said Brown. “Time will tell when we’re out of the woods, but right now he’s doing well.”
