I started @a_little_bite_publishing
while researching children’s books.
I was inspired to make changes one book at a time when I found that in 2021 the representation of diverse characters in children’s books was 3.8% disabled, 5% Latin, 7% Brown, 8% Asian, and 10% Black.
It is important to have diverse characters in children’s books because it promotes a mirror to identity, it improves children’s self-worth, it helps reduce stereotypes, improves academic skills, and empowers creative children to tell their stories.
Children who learn about different cultures early on are more comfortable and feel safe with their own differences.
Diversity is everyone’s story, isn’t it?
At A Little Bite Publishing, we feel it should be.
In my research, I have been following the trends of parents getting back in the kitchen with their children, many have started homeschooling full-time, and bilingualism is being taught to children from birth. With the knowledge I have gained thru my research I have decided to create this book series with diverse multi-cultured disabled characters.
Fun activities and discussion pages will be included in our books.
Our books will be bilingual including translations in Spanish, Arabic, and French.
Our storybooks will be translated into Braile and voice-over in each language.
We hope to open healthy conversations around children’s physical and learning disabilities, imaging diversity, encouraging inclusion and breaking stigma.
