Help Provide Life Saving Medications in Sri Lanka

The 14th Annual Tamil Canadian Walk is back in person at Thomson Memorial Park in Scarborough on September 11th, 2022.

As Sri Lanka continues to suffer from its worst financial slump, hospitals increasingly face a shortage of life-saving medicines. 100% of the proceeds raised through the 2022 Tamil Canadian Walk will support the purchase of life-saving medical supplies for hospitals across four regions: North, East, Central and South.

Cancer hospitals like Thellipalai Hospital struggle to maintain a stock of essential medicine to maintain uninterrupted patient treatment. In a recent interview stressing the seriousness of the shortage, the President of the Sri Lanka Medical Association warned citizens against getting ill or injured; requiring medical assistance at a hospital.

Shortage includes medicine for rabies, epilepsy and reagents needed to run complete blood count tests. Most essential items like suture material, cotton wool, gauze, cotton socks for surgery, and supplies for blood transfusions are facing a critical shortage.

Hospitals and health professionals across the island continue to plead for help through donations to purchase basic life-saving medical supplies.
