<div>At Maitreya School — the free school of the Root Institute — many students come from families whose income depends on informal and unstable work. There are mornings when there is simply no food before school.

<div>They come to learn.
</div>
<div>They come because school is a safe place.
</div>

<div>Before the first lesson starts, something simple changes the atmosphere:

<div>It is not a large meal.
</div>
<div>It is not abundance.
</div>
<div>It is just enough for the body to wake up and the mind to concentrate.
