The Historic Chief Theater Needs Your Help!

In mid March, 2020 the Chief Theater was forced to close its doors due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  The loss of revenue for our small historic theater has been catastrophic.  We have had to cancel all of our events, youth workshops, and youth productions. We are not sure when we are going to be able to reopen or in what capacity.  Your support in these troubling times is essential now more than ever.   We have procured more than $1,000 in matching funds so your donation will go even further!

The Chief Theater has been one of the focal points of downtown Steamboat Springs since the mid 1920's.  With a robust history of hosting events for all facets of the community the Chief Theater has has been a community and cultural hub of our valley for nearly 100 years. In July 1938 the Chief Theater hosted two nights of the top magician in the world. July of 1974 saw John Prine play two shows at the Chief Theater.  The dancers of Perry Mansfield performed at the Chief Theater countless times over the past 90 years.  The Chief Theater was the place where the woman's guild would meet and host fundraisers for the fire department, the library, as well as scrap metal drives during World War II.

If we fast forward to current times, in 2019 the Chief Theater hosted over 200 events and was in use for more than 300 days.  Our events range from youth workshops, classes and productions to the Chief Players,  Songwriter Series, Steamboat is Magic Festival, and our Free Film Series.

In addition to providing our own content the Chief Theater is proud to partner with over 30 different non-profit organizations each year. These organizations include; Steamboat Creates, The Tread of Pioneers Museum, The Bud Werner Memorial Library, Yampatika, Piknik Theatre, The Girl Scouts of America, just to name a few.

We are also very excited to announce our partnership with The Steamboat Arts Academy.  This new partnership will enable us to have nearly 150 kids participating in theatre, dance, writing, and fine arts programs. This programming will include summer camps and school year classes.

Thank you for your donation!  Your support of the Historic Chief Theater will enable us to continue to  serve the community as the cultural and arts hub of downtown Steamboat Springs.
