Every dollar saved on electricity is another dollar helping someone in crisis.

Just over a year ago, Survivor's R Us came close to closing its doors. Rising rent and operating costs had pushed the organisation to the breaking point.

Then the community stepped in.

With the support of government, businesses, volunteers and everyday Australians, Survivor's R Us secured a permanent community centre where it can continue helping people experiencing domestic violence, homelessness, food insecurity, financial hardship and crisis.

We are once again asking for your help.

Not to save the organisation, but to strengthen it for generations to come.

Every day, the Survivor's R Us community centre powers refrigeration and freezers for food relief, counselling rooms, offices and community spaces. Electricity is one of its largest ongoing expenses, with bills reaching thousands of dollars each quarter.

Installing rooftop solar panels will reduce those costs for years to come, allowing more funding to be redirected into:

• Emergency food relief

• Counselling and support

• Crisis assistance

• Practical help for families

• Community programs

This is more than an investment in renewable energy.

It is an investment in people.

Survivor's R Us regularly helps people who may appear to be coping from the outside but are quietly struggling behind closed doors. Some have jobs. Some have two incomes. Some walk into the op shop because it feels like a safe first step.

A simple conversation can lead to food support, counselling, employment opportunities and renewed hope.

Origin Energy has already generously funded the battery storage system through a community grant. We also sincerely acknowledge Sharp EIT, which is supporting the project through exclusive savings and technical expertise.

Now we need the community's help to complete the final piece of the project: the solar panels.

Every dollar raised will go towards purchasing and installing solar panels for the Survivor's R Us community centre.
