Help pick up Paul Duke, Sr.

Donation protected
On October 6, 2015, Paul underwent a full meniscectomy knee surgery removing both lateral and medial meniscus and a reconstruction of both the ACL and MCL ligaments in his right knee. It was with great hope and anticipation that this surgery would help to alleviate the chronic pain that Paul suffered with for many years. Sadly, the surgery led to deep vein thrombosis and three main veins in Paul’s leg were clotted. The most severe was a 33" blood clot from his ankle to groin.

Paul was bed stricken for months and unable to return to work. Today, Paul suffers from a condition called Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI) caused by damage to the deep vein in his leg. CVI causes blood to pool in the legs instead of moving upward and returning to the heart. Paul uses a cane and has limited mobility. He cannot sit, stand, or drive for long periods of time.

After coming to the realization that he could no longer work, Paul finally applied for Social Security Disability benefits and is currently engaged in the rigorous process of trying to obtain benefits. With zero income, Paul has now depleted his savings and credit. Paul’s medical bills are significant and he is behind on property taxes and in jeopardy of losing his house.

For those of you who know Paul, you know that he is a proud man who will not ask for help but yet was committed to helping others whenever he could. I can recall a couple of homeless men regular to the neighborhood and Paul would often stop to buy them something to eat. He also sought them out in the colder winter months to give them a little cash.  Paul is a dedicated father who provided well for his son while growing up and he has always been there to help family and friends when needed. I am sure that it is not a surprise to many- that Paul continues to take great care of his mother today. She resides in the down stairs flat of Paul’s home and is 84 years young.

Any and all donations are greatly appreciated and will significantly help Paul during this difficult time!

 Thank you.
