I'm raising money in aid of NORTH SOMERSET PEOPLE FIRST and every donation will help.

I have lived in North Somerset for most of my life and through my work in Social Care I became familiar with the great work this charity offers for people with learning disability and autism.

Over the years, I have become more aware of how important advocacy is to enable choice, control, and opportunities.

I am privileged to have been appointed as a volunteer trustee for People First in 2023, who have recently extended their support to people living in Bristol and South Gloucestershire.

Background:

North Somerset People First was set up in 1991 by a small group of people; their aim was to improve the lives of people with a learning disability by introducing self-advocacy.

People first have now grown and developed over many years and we became a charitable incorporated organisation (CIO) in April 2015.

Mission statement

North Somerset People First promotes and encourages people with a learning disability to speak up for themselves, empowering them to be in control of their own lives, now and in the future.

My fundraising idea:

I have signed up to run the AJBell Bristol big race and my target is to run 10k.

This is a personal challenge having only really started my running journey in September 2023.

Starting woth couple of minute intervals of the couch to 5k training - with a fantastic local group, to regularly completing our local parkrun in Weston-super-Mare.

My ambition is to run this raise to raise funds for additional support groups to be delivered or Social activities, and also to raise awareness of this excellent charity.
