Help Pay Medical Bills For Jacob Bostaph

If you know our son Jacob Bostaph, you know him as a loving and devoted husband, father of two young boys and a friend to many. The picture attached to this fundraiser shows him smiling from ear to ear. If you know Jacob then you have often seen him like this, always smiling. 

As a shock to the entire family, our son, Jacob was recently diagnosed with a stage two oligodendroglioma brain tumor that is very large. He just went through the first of two operations to try and remove as much of the tumor as possible. The tumor covers a very large portion of his brain which would make any treatment options completely ineffective. The doctors hope is to be able to remove enough of the tumor to hopefully make the treatment to save his life effective. He is home now recovering from the first operation. In about three to four weeks Jacob will return to Penn Hospital in Philadelphia for the second operation. This will be a very difficult procedure because the tumor is attached to the part of his brain that controls speech as well as his arm and leg functions. He will be awake for this so that he can answer questions during the operation, this is the only way for the surgeon to know if he is going too deep. He will return home to recover for another two weeks and then begin treatments if the surgeries are a success.  Treatments will consist of radiation in the beginning followed by nine months of chemotherapy. The first six weeks will have to be done in Philadelphia where he will be separated from his family.  Thankfully the remaining nine months of treatment will take place near family so he won't be alone.

Jacob is a high school math teacher and had just begun online teaching for his students because of Covid-19 when he had to take medical leave which resulted in a pay cut.  His wife Anita also works but was forced to stop because of Covid-19 and to take care of Jacob. Their income has been greatly affected and they will have many expenses over the next year because of his diagnosis. With surmounting medical bills and the expense of traveling back and forth to Penn Hospital it will not be possible for them to make ends meet.  

This has been a gut wrenching time for the entire family and came when no one would have ever expected. We are asking those of you who know and love our family for your prayers and if you are able you would help Jacob and his family by making a donation during these difficult times.  Como un shock para toda la familia, nuestro hijo, Jacob, fue diagnosticado recientemente con un tumor cerebral de oligodendroglioma en etapa dos que es muy grande.  Simplemente realizó la primera de las dos operaciones para tratar de extirpar la mayor cantidad de tumor posible.  El tumor cubre una porción muy grande de su cerebro, lo que haría que cualquier opción de tratamiento sea completamente ineficaz.  Los doctores esperan poder extirpar suficiente tumor para hacer efectivo el tratamiento para salvar su vida.  Ahora está en casa recuperándose de la primera operación.  En unas tres o cuatro semanas, Jacob regresará al Hospital Penn en Filadelfia para la segunda operación.  Este será un procedimiento muy difícil porque el tumor está unido a la parte de su cerebro que controla el habla, así como las funciones de sus brazos y piernas.  Estará despierto para esto, de modo que pueda responder preguntas durante la operación, esta es la única forma para que el cirujano sepa si está yendo demasiado profundo.  Regresará a casa para recuperarse por otras dos semanas y luego comenzará los tratamientos si las cirugías son exitosas.  Los tratamientos consistirán en radiación al principio seguida de nueve meses de quimioterapia.  Las primeras seis semanas tendrán que hacerse en Filadelfia, donde será separado de su familia.  Afortunadamente, los nueve meses restantes de tratamiento se realizarán cerca de la familia para que no esté solo.

 Jacob es profesor de matemáticas en la escuela secundaria y acababa de comenzar la enseñanza en línea para sus estudiantes debido a Covid-19 cuando tuvo que tomar una licencia médica, lo que resultó en un recorte salarial.  Su esposa Anita también trabaja, pero se vio obligada a dejar de trabajar debido a Covid-19 y a cuidar a Jacob.  Sus ingresos se han visto muy afectados y tendrán muchos gastos durante el próximo año debido a su diagnóstico.  Con la superación de las facturas médicas y el costo de viajar de ida y vuelta al Hospital Penn, no será posible que puedan llegar a fin de mes.
